La Flor Dominicana is a family-owned cigar company founded in 1994 by Litto Gomez and Ines Lorenzo-Gomez. Litto was a jeweller, before entering the cigar industry but a life-altering experience—being robbed at gunpoint in his jewellery store—led him to pursue a new path. His first cigars, under the name Los Libertadores, were mild, but the brand has since transformed dramatically.

Today, La Flor Dominicana is synonymous with ligero—the strongest tobacco leaves from the top of the plant. While “ligero” was once an industry term, Gomez popularized it among cigar enthusiasts with his Ligero and Double Ligero lines. Unsatisfied with the strength of ligero available, Gomez took matters into his own hands and began growing his own tobacco.

Now both a farmer and cigarmaker, Gomez cultivates his tobacco in La Canela, a hot, arid microclimate within the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic. These unique conditions yield tobacco that is stronger, spicier, and more intense—characteristics that define La Flor Dominicana cigars.
