In 1886, Melanio Oliva planted his first tobacco crop in Pinar del Río, Cuba. His work paused during the Cuban War of Independence, but he resumed tobacco farming after the war. By the 1920s, his son Facundo Oliva took over, dedicating decades to cultivating the family’s tobacco fields.

Today, the Oliva family grows more Cuban-seed tobacco in Nicaragua than almost anyone else. They use time-tested methods of curing, blending, and rolling that built their empire. The Oliva cigar lineup has earned numerous top ratings from industry experts and consumers. In 2014, Cigar Aficionado Magazine named the Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado the Cigar of the Year.
