MACANUDO EMISSARY ESPANA ROBUSTO
#Cigar of the Year 2024 by Cigars Lover Magazine
Macanudo Cigars
This brand first emerged as a frontmark crafted in Guatemala by the producers of the Cuban Punch brand. In 1971, General Cigar acquired the rights to the name outside of Cuba and introduced Macanudo as a standalone brand. Building on its legacy, Macanudo was refined and developed in Jamaica under the expert guidance of Ramón Cifuentes, a master Cuban cigar maker formerly of Partagas. In October 2000, production shifted from Jamaica to the Dominican Republic, where the brand continued its tradition of excellence.
Emissary Espana Robusto
The Macanudo Emissary Espana Robusto showcases a carefully balanced five-country blend. At its core, a Havana seed tobacco grows near the town of Riolobos, Spain. This region’s rocky soil and Mediterranean climate create a rich, distinctive flavour that’s impossible to replicate. Nearby olive groves and paprika pepper fields surround the crops, influencing the tobacco’s character. Warm, dry summer days and mild nights help produce thick, oily leaves. Together with the rugged terrain, these factors add depth and complexity.
To enhance the Spanish Havana, the blend incorporates five aged tobaccos from four other countries—Nicaragua, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and the United States. Aged between 5 and 10 years, these tobaccos develop smoothness and rich flavours. This combination creates a cigar that delivers a refined, nuanced smoking experience.
