DREW ESTATE UNDERCROWN SHADE ROBUSTO CIGARS
Drew Estate Cigars
#89 Rating by Cigar Aficionado
Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel aren’t your typical cigar makers. Their journey didn’t begin in Cuba or with family ties to the cigar trade. It started with a dream. With grit and determination, they built Drew Estate into one of the world’s leading cigar manufacturers. These two frat brothers from New York began their venture with humble beginnings—a tiny 16-square-foot retail kiosk in the World Trade Center.
In late 1998, Jonathan Drew moved to Estelí, Nicaragua, determined to spark a revolution in the cigar world. With just a few rollers and even less money, the legend of “That Wild Gringo” was born. From a New York City apartment to sleeping on a mattress above a rundown factory—and barely speaking Spanish—his journey was anything but ordinary.
Undercrown Shade
Drew Estate Undercrown Shade Robusto stands as the first release crafted by Drew Estate’s Master Blender Willy Herrera outside the Herrera Estelí family. Herrera collaborated closely with the original Undercrown roller team to develop this exceptional Connecticut blend.
The cigar features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a Sumatran binder, and a filler blend of Dominican Criollo 98 with Nicaraguan Criollo and Corojo tobaccos. The result is a medium-bodied cigar that delivers lush, ultra-smooth flavours, showcasing the signature elegance of a shade-grown wrapper.
